Semler Scientific Aims for Major Bitcoin Holdings by 2027
California-based med tech firm Semler Scientific has big plans for Bitcoin. By 2027, it aims to hold 105,000 BTC in its treasury.The company announced this goal on June 19.
Semler plans a phased approach.It will reach 10,000 BTC by 2025 and 42,000 BTC by 2026. Funding will come from equity, debt, and cash flow.
To led this effort, Semler hired Joe burnett as Bitcoin strategy director. Burnett, a Bitcoin expert, believes Bitcoin is a top long-term investment. He aims to create one of the largest corporate Bitcoin treasuries.
Semler’s strategy is paying off. as of June 3, it saw a 287% Bitcoin yield and $177 million in unrealized gains. It holds 3,808 BTC, becoming the 13th largest Bitcoin holder among listed firms.
Despite losses in its healthcare business, Semler’s Bitcoin strategy shines. It reported a 22.2% BTC yield in the first quarter of 2025.
Semler’s move reflects a growing trend. Many U.S. companies are adopting Bitcoin as a strategic asset. Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed firm, is on track to hold 100,000 BTC by 2026.
