Bitcoin Reaches New Heights; Treasury Stocks Lag Behind
On August 13, 2025, Bitcoin surged to an all-time high of $124,457. Despite this milestone, Bitcoin treasury firmsâ stock prices havenât followed suit. Many investors had hoped these stocks would outperform Bitcoin.
The discrepancy lies in several factors. Investor confidence wavers, value dilution worries mount, and direct bitcoin investments gain more traction. Yet, provided that these companies manage risk effectively, they shouldnât collapse.
Bitcoinâs price spike this year is unmatched. It hit new records six times in 2025, driven by spot Bitcoin ETF inflows and U.S. inflation reports hinting at September rate cuts. After peaking, prices slipped below $120,000 due to profit-taking. Trading volume rose by 31%, and short seller liquidations hit $130 million in hours.
While impressive, this newATH sparked limited fanfare. Twitter user @nicrypto noted perp funding rates were lower than in previous spikes, suggesting this might not be the pinnacle.
Ether also thrived, soaring 20% in seven days. Though, it missed its 2021 high by just $100. Comparatively, bitcoin climbed merely 2%. Many believe traditional four-year cycles no longer apply.
Bitcoin treasuries, promoted as an indirect way to gain Bitcoin exposure, havenât matched its success. Their stocksâ performance has disappointed. Strategy, a leading treasury firm, fell 16% from its peak, while others like Metaplanet and Nakamoto declined 50% and 80%, respectively.
Analysts blame issues like leverage and dilution risks. A cooldown in Bitcoin prices could shift investor focus back to treasury stocks. But newer treasuries focusing on other cryptos, like Ether or WLFI, may pose a challenge.
With Bitcoin now deemed a viable, regulated commodity, Bitget Researchâs Ryan Lee reckons treasury companies wonât collapse if they manage risk wisely. Maintaining investor trust and navigating market corrections remain crucial.
