Starknet readies major v0.14.0 upgrade for Sept. 1
Starknet, the Ethereum layer-2 network, is gearing up for a crucial upgrade set to activate on September 1. Version 0.14.0 boasts improvements like decentralized sequencing and pre-confirmations.
Decentralized sequencing is a game changer. It uses Tendermint consensus to rotate among different sequencers. This prevents censorship, ensures fair order, and boosts reliability.
The feature also introduces “pre-confirmations” for speedy interactions. Even in busy periods, most transactions get tentatively confirmed within a second. this change substantially cuts the wait time for daily tasks.
Fees get a revamp too, following Ethereum’s EIP-1559 model. A fixed base price in FRI separates Starknet fees from Ethereum gas prices, predictably lowering costs.
Additional tech improvements update RPC statuses and tweak mempool design. Users can now process several blocks at once, streamlining transactions.
A 15-minute outage is expected during the upgrade for smooth migration.Transactions will pause briefly.
This update follows recent Starknet milestones. Extended DEX, a decentralized exchange with 100x leverage, launched. The community also voted on a Bitcoin staking plan.
