BBVA Launches Crypto Trading in Spain
Spanish bank BBVA is introducing a new crypto trading service for its customers. This service will let users buy, sell, and manage Bitcoin and Ethereum through the bank’s app.
BBVA, the second-largest Spanish bank by assets, will first offer this service to a select group of users. It will then expand to all private customers in the coming months. The bank has completed the necessary regulatory steps under Spain’s Markets in Cryptoassets Regulation (MiCA).
Customers can now handle their crypto transactions alongside regular banking activities. The bank will use its own custody platform for crypto keys, ensuring security without third-party involvement. Gonzalo Rodríguez, head of retail banking in Spain, said, “We aim to make crypto investing simple and accessible via mobile phones. Our goal is to guide customers as they explore digital assets, backed by BBVA’s reliability and security.”
BBVA already offers similar services in Switzerland and Türkiye.In Switzerland, it launched Bitcoin trading in 2021, later adding Ethereum and USD Coin. In Türkiye, Garanti BBVA provides custody for multiple cryptocurrencies.
