Senate Delays Vote on SEC Chair Nominee Paul Atkins
The Senate Banking Committee has postponed its vote on Paul Atkins, the nominee for the next U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair. This update comes from Eleanor Terrett, a journalist and host of the Crypto in America podcast, who shared the news via X.
According to a Senate aide, the committee won’t vote today on Atkins or other nominees. Instead, nominees must submit written answers to committee questions before a markup vote. The exact date for this vote is yet to be determined.
Atkins, chosen by President Donald Trump to replace Gary Gensler, appeared before the Senate’s banking committee on march 27. Gensler’s tenure at the SEC was largely viewed as anti-crypto, marked by numerous lawsuits and investigations against crypto firms.
Atkins aims to bring regulatory clarity to the crypto space. In his prepared testimony, he stated, “A top priority will be to provide a firm regulatory foundation for digital assets through a rational, coherent, and principled approach.”
while the Senate delays Atkins’ confirmation, interim chair Mark Uyeda continues to steer the SEC in a direction welcomed by the crypto industry. Many believe Atkins’ confirmation is unavoidable, with the only question being when it will happen.
