SpaceX Launches First Human Polar Orbit Mission, Funded by Crypto Investor
Elon Musk’s spacex is set to embark on a groundbreaking mission, sending a four-person crew into a polar orbit. This unique journey, named Fram2, will be the first human spaceflight to fly directly over Earth’s North and South Poles. The mission is funded by Chun Wang, the founder of the Bitcoin mining pool F2Pool.
Chun Wang, a Malta-based crypto investor, has assembled a diverse crew for this historic mission. The team includes Norwegian filmmaker Jannicke Mikkelsen,German robotics researcher Rabea Rogge, and Australian explorer Eric Philips. None of these adventurers have been to space before, adding an exciting twist to the mission.
Launching from Florida on March 31st at 9:46 p.m. ET, Fram2 will take the crew on a path that no human spaceflight has traveled.Unlike traditional missions that follow paths closer to the equator, Fram2 will achieve a true 90-degree inclination, flying directly over both poles.
Chun Wang’s involvement in Bitcoin mining has been significant. F2Pool once contributed a large portion of the Bitcoin network’s hash rate. Although its role has diminished with increased competition, it still accounts for over 10% of Bitcoin’s total hash rate.
The mission offers numerous research opportunities. The crew will participate in studies on the effects of space travel on the human body, including brain fluid shifts and sleep disruptions. Thay will also undergo MRI scans similar to those conducted on SpaceX’s 2024 Polaris dawn mission.
Additionally, the mission will include an experiment by British startup Hormona to track hormone fluctuations in female astronauts, aiming to close the gender data gap in medicine. The crew will also conduct various experiments, such as growing mushrooms in space and observing polar auroras.
Expected to last three to five days, the Fram2 mission will conclude with a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. This pioneering journey marks a significant step in human space exploration.
