Belarus and Russia Collaborate on Digital Ruble Launch
Belarus is gearing up to introduce its central bank digital currency (CBDC) by late 2026. National Bank chief Roman Golovchenko announced this plan via Belta, the state news agency. The digital ruble is a top priority for the central bank, with efforts focused on ensuring fund security.
Golovchenko emphasized the importance of tracking digital money movements. He explained, “We’re working hard to create a secure digital ruble. Our main concern is the ‘coloring’ of funds, ensuring we can trace digital transactions throughout the system.”
The national Bank has three main tasks: designing the platform, developing local software, and establishing rules. Businesses will start using it in 2026, followed by government agencies and individuals in 2027. This initiative aims to enhance financial transparency and efficiency.
Belarus sees great potential in CBDCs for cross-border payments. Belarus is collaborating closely with Russia, which is also developing its digital ruble.
in April, crypto.news reported that Russia delayed its CBDC rollout to mid-2026 due to technical challenges. This delay highlights the complexities involved in launching a digital currency.
Both countries are committed to integrating digital currencies, aiming to streamline financial transactions and boost economic cooperation.
