Major Cargo Theft Ring Busted in Los Angeles
Los Angeles police have made a meaningful arrest in a cargo theft case. They nabbed two suspects linked to a South American theft ring. The operation recovered over $3.9 million in stolen goods.
Among the seized items were $2.7 million worth of Bitcoin mining computers. These were found at LAX, about to be shipped to Hong Kong. The mining equipment is in high demand due to it’s role in Bitcoin (BTC) mining.
The suspects, Oscar David Borrero-Manchola and Yonaiker Rafael martinez-Ramos, were caught after a joint inquiry.The LAPD’s Cargo Theft Unit, along with other agencies, led the probe.
Authorities also recovered $1.2 million in other stolen goods. These included tequila, electronics, and pet food. The items were found in storage units in the San fernando Valley.
Borrero-Manchola was released after being cited. Martinez-Ramos, however, remains in custody. He faces a no-bail warrant.
The investigation is still ongoing. Officials warn that more arrests may follow.They are working to protect commercial cargo routes from such thefts.
