Argentine President Misses Key Hearing in LIBRA Crypto Scandal
Argentine President Javier milei and his sister Karina did not show up for a crucial session about the LIBRA meme coin scandal. Neither did their legal representatives.This virtual meeting was a preliminary step before possible civil lawsuits over the multi-million dollar crypto scheme.
According to Página/12, only one lawyer attended the digital conference, representing defendant Manuel Terrones Godoy. Godoy has a history of financial irregularities.
Federal Judge María Servini has escalated the investigation. She formally asked the Central Bank for access to the President’s financial records, including Karina Milei’s, dating back to 2023. The probe follows allegations that the Mileis were linked to the Libra cryptocurrency promoters.LIBRA collapsed soon after Milei endorsed it on social media.Court documents show the fraud affected about 25 victims, with losses estimated at $4.5 million.
Servini has frozen assets of several businesspeople involved in the digital currency. These include Mauricio Novelli, Sergio Morales, and Manuel Terrones Godoy. Security footage shows Novelli’s family members leaving a bank with full bags,just after Milei’s endorsement. The controversy began on Feb. 14 when Milei promoted the LIBRA launch. While the crypto briefly rose in value, it quickly fell. Milei later claimed he was unaware of the transaction details.
