Base Possibly Launching network Token: A Major Shift Ahead
At BaseCamp 2025 in Stowe, Vermont, Jesse Pollak, Head of Base, hinted at the possibility of launching a network token. This move could transform Base from a mere utility chain into a comprehensive ecosystem.
The idea is to make Base operable and open, allowing developers to leverage its potential fully. To support this, an open-source bridge linking Base and Solana (SOL) was also introduced.
āBase aims to act as a bridge, not an isolated entity,ā said the Base team.their goal is to unite various blockchain systems and foster a cohesive Web3 environment.
Though embracing this new direction, Base remains dedicated to Ethereum. Instead of becoming a layer-1 chain, base will continue leveraging Ethereumās infrastructure.
Brian Armstrong,Coinbaseās CEO,supports this exploration. He believes it could enhance decentralization and innovation.Yet, definate plans are still undeclared; itās merely a ideology update at present.
Coinbaseās hesitation about launching its own token stemmed from regulatory risks. But shifting U.S. regulatory policies under new SEC leadership now make such ventures less perilous.
Through strategic steps like these, Base seeks to navigate the evolving blockchain landscape while staying compliant.
