McGregor Sees Bitcoin as a Tool for Government accountability
Former UFC champion Conor McGregor has shared his thoughts on cryptocurrencies, notably Bitcoin, and their potential to ensure government transparency. On May 12, McGregor, who aspires to be the future Irish president, posted on X about the benefits of Bitcoin and other digital currencies.
McGregor believes that cryptocurrencies offer transparent and trustless applications. He sees Bitcoin as an “immutable” currency for the people. “Bitcoin or cryptocurrency? I can see lots of transparent and trustless applications within crypto. And I can see an immutable people’s money with Bitcoin,” he stated.
He also asked X users which cryptocurrencies could help bring accountability to governments. This sparked a discussion with crypto industry leaders like Charles Hoskinson and Stephen Cole. Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano (ADA), commented, “Let’s chat.” Simultaneously occurring, Cole, co-founder of Orqestra, believes Bitcoin is the best choice due to its social decentralization.
McGregor’s interest in crypto isn’t new.In March 2025, he announced his intention to run for the Irish presidency. If elected, he might adopt a crypto-friendly approach, similar to Donald Trump. Though, his recent meme coin venture, REAL, faced setbacks. Launched on April 7, it failed to meet its pre-sale target and was paused.
Despite this, McGregor remains optimistic about crypto’s potential. His website suggests that REAL will relaunch soon.Users can register for updates by providing their email and X handle.
