Decentralized AI Startup Secures $50 Million from Paradigm
Decentralized AI startup Nous Research has received a $50 million investment from venture capital firm Paradigm. This move could reshape the AI landscape, traditionally dominated by centralized players.
On April 25, Paradigm announced its backing of Nous Research. the startup plans to develop a decentralized AI model on the Solana blockchain. This project aims to create open-source large language models, competing with giants like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Meta’s Llama.
Nous Research is already making waves with its research. They published a paper on training LLMs using GPUs from different locations. This innovation could lead to a global, shared AI model.
- Training models in the testing phase
- Published influential research papers
- Focus on decentralized computing
The Nous Research team, described as ‘crypto native,’ will use Solana to build a decentralized computing network. Anyone can contribute their idle GPU power to train the models and earn tokens in return.
Co-founder Karan Malhotra sees this as a transaction, not a donation. He acknowledges skepticism around AI and crypto but emphasizes blockchainS real-world applications in decentralized training.
This series A round values Nous Research at $1 billion, with Paradigm as the primary investor.Previously, the company raised $20 million from other investors.
