France Enhances Protection for Crypto Executives Amid Kidnapping Wave
French authorities are stepping up security for cryptocurrency leaders and their families. This decision follows a string of kidnappings and attempts targeting the industry.
On May 16, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau announced new security measures.The move came after a recent abduction attempt in central Paris. Authorities aim to prevent more attacks with immediate and long-term actions.
A masked group tried to kidnap pierre Noizat’s daughter.Noizat runs Paymium, a crypto exchange. this incident is part of a larger problem. Earlier this year, criminals kidnapped David Balland, co-founder of Ledger. Balland and his wife were freed, but he was hurt. The kidnappers wanted crypto as ransom.
Following the latest attempted abduction, Retailleau met with crypto executives. Eric Larchevêque, another Ledger co-founder, praised the meeting. He noted that the crypto sector globally has seen about 50 attacks on key figures in the last year. Over a quarter of these occurred in France, calling it the “ground zero” of such crimes.
French law enforcement has arrested 10 people in connection with these incidents. Authorities are committed to protecting the crypto community.
