MetaMask’s Token Launch Rumors: Co-Founder Reveals potential Plans
MetaMask’s co-founder, dan finlay, recently hinted at the possibility of launching a native token. In an interview with Tim Copeland, Head of Growth at The Block, Finlay responded with a simple “maybe” when asked about future token plans.
Speculation about a MetaMask token has been around since 2021. Back then, an engineer named Erik Marks suggested community ownership through a token launch. This idea gained traction when ConsenSys CEO joseph Lubin tweeted “Wen $MASK?”
Finlay clarified that if a token launch happens, users will find the information directly in their wallets. “We won’t send emails or texts. It will be in the wallet and on our main website,” he said. This approach ensures users receive official updates through trusted channels.
Finlay also noted that the changing U.S. regulatory habitat under the Trump administration could provide more “safety” for various token launches. “We hope people use this chance to set new precedents,” he added.
MetaMask has previously warned users about fake token accounts. In March, they issued a notice debunking rumors of an official token airdrop. Users shoudl stay cautious and verify information through official MetaMask channels.
