Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Holdings with Strategic Purchases
Japan’s metaplanet has bolstered its Bitcoin reserves by acquiring an additional 160 BTC. This brings its total holdings to 4,206 BTC.The company announced this move on April 2, stating that the latest acquisition was made at an average price of $80,063 per BTC, totaling $13.39 million.
This purchase is part of Metaplanet’s ongoing Bitcoin treasury strategy, crucial for its growth. The company bought these coins at an average price of 12.49 million yen ($80,063) per coin. The strategy has been pivotal in Metaplanet’s expansion.In Q1 2025, it acquired 696 BTC, with 50 BTC from premiums and 645.74 BTC from option exercises. The total cost was $91.7 million. The company uses cash-secured Bitcoin put options to fund these buys. It raised $13.22 million through its 10th Series of Ordinary Bonds. The funds will go toward more Bitcoin purchases. Since adopting this strategy, Metaplanet’s stock has surged over 3,000%, showing strong investor interest.
Metaplanet aims to hold 21,000 BTC by 2026, surpassing 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025. its Bitcoin yield rose to 309% in Q4 2024 and 95% in Q1 2025. The company expects to earn $27.5 million from its Bitcoin program this year, contributing to its total revenue target of $31.3 million. The company measures success through BTC Yield, which reflects the percentage change in total Bitcoin holdings compared to fully diluted shares. This strategy has positioned it as a leading corporate Bitcoin holder in Asia.
