Polygon Co-Founder Mihailo Bjelic Steps Back from Active Role
Mihailo Bjelic, one of the co-founders of Polygon, has announced his decision to step down from the board of the polygon Foundation. The news came via a post on X on May 23, 2025. Alongside his board exit, Bjelic plans to reduce his day-to-day involvement with Polygon Labs.
Reflecting on Polygon’s journey since its inception in 2019, bjelic emphasized notable milestones. The project has seen advancements in zero-knowledge technology and has partnered with numerous global brands. “I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and grateful for the talented individuals I’ve worked with,” he said.
Bjelic entered the crypto world in 2013,delving deeper by 2017. He co-founded Polygon, initially known as Matic Network, with Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep nailwal, and Anurag Arjun. The project became a prominent proof-of-stake blockchain in the U.S. in 2023.
explaining his departure,Bjelic noted that as projects mature, visions can diverge. “I can no longer contribute to Polygon as effectively as before,” he stated. Despite his exit, he remains confident in Polygon’s success, promising support from the sidelines.
This move follows similar steps by co-founders Kanani and Arjun, who left Polygon in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Nailwal expressed deep recognition for Bjelic’s contributions, calling him “more than a co-founder” and highlighting his role in shaping Polygon’s identity.
