Ethereum Layer 2 Developers Voice Concerns Over Foundation Support
polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal has expressed growing doubts about his loyalty to Ethereum. He claims teh Ethereum Foundation has not directly supported Polygon, despite its role in scaling the network.
In a recent X post, Nailwal argued that Polygonâs contributions are often overlooked by the Ethereum community. He believes this insular attitude fails to recognize Polygonâs layer 2 status, even as it powers major Ethereum applications.
Nailwal stated that Polygonâs ecosystem, including networks like Katana and XLayer, is closely tied to Ethereum.Though, he feels the community treats Polygonâs progress as separate from Ethereumâs broader success. He suggested that Polygonâs market value could be substantially higher if it where seen as a standalone layer 1 chain.
Andre Cronje,co-founder of Sonic Labs, shared similar concerns. He said he has âburned over 700 ETHâ building on Ethereum without receiving grants or support. Cronjeâs experience highlights the uneven support across Ethereumâs developer community.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin responded positively to Nailwalâs comments. He praised Polygon for its contributions, especially in developing zero-knowlege technology. Buterin also highlighted Nailwalâs charitable work in projects like the Balvi biotech program and CryptoRelief.
Buterin suggested that recent advancements in ZK proving systems could allow Polygon to integrate more closely with Ethereumâs main chain, offering stronger security guarantees. This could open new avenues for future cooperation.
