Somnia Launches Shannon Testnet for Mainnet readiness
Somnia, a fast Ethereum-compatible blockchain, has unveiled its Shannon Testnet. This move is a meaningful step toward its mainnet launch. The testnet is named after Claude Shannon, a pioneer in facts theory.
Shannon Testnet builds on DevNet’s success, which achieved over 1 million transactions per second (TPS). It offers developers a scalable platform for real-world applications. The testnet introduces third-party validators and staking protocols, boosting decentralization and security.
During DevNet testing, it processed over 3.6 million transactions across 300,000 unique addresses. It offers sub-second finality and low transaction fees. Somnia’s founder, Paul Thomas, said, “Shannon Testnet is the proving ground for a fully on-chain future.”
This launch gives developers a chance to test applications under real-world conditions. Somnia’s MultiStream Consensus enables parallel transaction execution, making Shannon ideal for congestion resistance.
somnia’s tech stack includes accelerated sequential execution and IceDB, a high-speed database. These features support reactive apps, on-chain gaming, scalable DeFi, and metaverse platforms.
This launch aligns with a trend of blockchain testnets gearing up for 2025 mainnets. Ethereum’s Spectra Devnet5 and Hyperliquid’s HyperEVM testnet are also making strides in the blockchain space.
