ZKsync issues Ultimatum to Hackers: Return 90% of stolen Funds or Face Legal Action
ZKsync has given hackers a 72-hour deadline to return 90% of the stolen funds from a recent exploit. The ZKsync Security Council announced this via an onchain message and their official account.
The team is offering a 10% bounty for cooperation. This means if the hackers return 90% of the funds, they will keep 10% as a reward. The stolen funds amount to $5 million in ZK tokens. These tokens were from unclaimed airdrop rewards.
On April 15, ZKsync confirmed their admin wallet was compromised. However, they assured users that their funds were safe. The ZKsync protocol and ZK token contracts remained secure.
The ultimatum requires the hackers to send 44,687,278.5988 ZK tokens, 1,021.3 ETH, and 766 ETH to specified addresses. These include a ZKsync Era address and an ethereum layer 1 address controlled by the Security Council.
If the hackers comply, ZKsync will publicly confirm the resolution and close the case. If they don’t, ZKsync will involve law enforcement. The team is also investigating the incident further.
Despite the hack, ZKsync’s price has seen a bounce. The team remains committed to resolving the issue amicably.
